MMUJ Expo'99 Appeal

Lightweight (less than 2.0 kg) PowerBook
is
our desire!

• Mobile Mac Users Japan has just been organized on February 3, 1999. This is one of the newest users groups in the World.
• Apple computer is back now, and here at MacWorld Expo/Tokyo, the keynote by the iCEO Steven Jobs is receiving acclaim. Now everything looks fine to Apple computer, but I have to tell you why we appeal for the light weight PowerBook..
• We want to use Macintosh every time everywhere even if we are in the office, at home, on the train, and during the trip. Unfortunately, PowerBookG3 series, which we can avail now, is too heavy to carry at ease.
• Now in Japan, almost all people usually use the trains as the transporter. And increasing the Mac User in every generation, especially women, after the sensational debut of iMac. So, the user-friendly lightweight notebook type computer will be essential in Japan day by day.
• We believe the MacOS is the best OS for mobile use. Because, the MacOS gives us the high usability, stability, and recoverability. That is why we think PowerBook 2400c series is one of the ideal lightweight notebook type computer, which we can avail.
• If we need lightweight notebook computer, we have no choice to buy a Windows notebook. Now extremely light one, which is less than 1.5 kg, is available. Nevertheless, we want to use Macintosh. In the cases of Mac users, PowerBook 2400c is the only one choice for our needs, despite the 2400c has already discontinued.
• The PowerBook2400c Users' community in Japan is still active even though the PowerBook2400 series has already discontinued. The 96 MB memory module was not officially supported by Apple computer, but one Japanese memory vendor produced it for the PowerBook2400 users. One mac enthusiastic retailer made the original keyboard for the PowerBook2400, because of the users' demand. The best selling book, "PowerBook2400c Perfect Guide" was written with collaboration among users, vendors, and companies. The G3 CPU upgrade cards for PowerBook2400c series were produced by two different companies. One is not a Japanese Company. All things happened in spite of the fact the total number of the sold PowerBook2400 was only 70,000.
• What does it mean? Many users are not satisfied with the current PowerBookG3 series, so they are spending plenty of money to upgrade their PowerBook2400 regardless of its outdated system. Some vendors and companies are still supporting enthusiastic PowerBook2400 users. Especially G3 daughter cards are running short at this moment..
• MMUJ is based on the PowerBook2400c mailing list. Thus the members of MMUJ are all PowerBook2400 users now. Our purpose is that we are exchanging the tips of the PowerBook2400 and making the FAQ list for the other users. Do you know why we do not call us "PowerBook2400c Users Group"? We really hope the next new PowerBook could succeed to the concept of the PowerBook2400c series.
• We have a big hope. Our hope is the brand-new PowerBook, which is going to debut this summer. We wish this new PowerBook series is an inheritor of PowerBook 2400c, which is lightweight (less than 2.0 kg), having a fastest CPU, of cause able to run the MacOS. It will be acceptable machine to not only Japanese Users but also all over the world.
• We, the members of MMUJ have different personalities and various skills and also everyone is enthusiastic about Macintosh. We declare here, our belief that light weight PowerBook is one of the best mobile computers and swear to cooperate with Apple computer and other companies.

We wish our minds are realized by Apple, developers, and everybody, who love Macintosh!
